Strung along the isthmus with Roches Beach on one side and Ralphs Bay on the other, Lauderdale is the last proper stop before the South Arm peninsula. Long, low blocks where a single router never quite reaches the back of the house, cameras on properties that sit empty midweek, and salt air that's harder on outdoor gear than anywhere five kilometres inland.
North along South Arm Road, Howrah is the family heart of the eastern shore and the last of the bigger shopping before the road narrows. Most of our runs out to Lauderdale come back through here, which is why a visit to one often means we're already close to the other.
Inland behind the bay, Rokeby is the settled pocket that sits between Lauderdale and the rest of Clarence — older streets at the centre with newer estate edges spreading out. Family device work and Wi-Fi that has to cover a full block rather than a beach frontage.
South of Lauderdale on the peninsula, Sandford is rural and spread out — Ralphs Bay hems it in on one side, Frederick Henry Bay on the other, and it was known as Muddy Plains before being renamed in 1887.
